Smartphones have become most integral part of our life, and we tend to spend hundred dollars to keep ourself updated with the rapidly changing technologies. But it is a pain when your phone runs slow, and you can’t do anything about it. Hmm.. actually you can. Follow these 11 amazingly simple tips (tried and tested) to make your phone run faster.

How to Make Your Phone Faster – 11 Simple Tips for Android

Android devices are very popular and need no introduction. Android is a Linux-based OS which is developed by IT giant Google. Since its origin back in 2008 were loved very much by the users. Here comes the sweet part, since Android is an open source, i.e., the Source Code is available to download to make any changes to it by other developers, we can perform a lot of customizations on your Android device.

Performance wise too, the devices fares pretty well. As the versions of the Android are passing by, we can see a significant amount of improvements made in the device. Due to some unknown reasons, the phone might not perform up to the mark. Nobody would like their device to underperform, isn’t it? So we are going to see a few techniques on how to improve the performance (or) run your phone faster.

1. Keep the Home Screen Clean:

# Tip: Always keep your Home Screen clean

Usually, we see people crowding their device’s home screen with shortcuts to the apps and create many, sometimes additional widgets. We do this because we can save our time rather than opening the app drawer and looking for the app.

So we have to avoid this practice because this will degrade the performance of the device because of the clustered home screen which puts up the load in the background, so remove all the unnecessary shortcuts and widgets.

Also if you are using any live wallpaper, change it to any static wallpaper, this will improve the performance as well as the battery life. Live wallpaper drains the resources, a lot!

2. Uninstall Unused Apps:

# Tip: Uninstall Unnecessary Apps via Settings >> Apps >> Uninstall

The apps which are not mostly used by you, simply uninstall them, because if you don’t the app will use the storage and will also be running in the background, this will degrade the performance and battery life as well.

To uninstall an app Open app drawer >> Settings >> Apps (App Management) >> Tap the app you don’t required >> Uninstall. If it is a system app, instead of “Uninstall” you will be having “Disable”. Tap that and it’ll be uninstalled.

Note: You can also “Uninstall Updates” if the app is rarely or been never used at all. This will free up some space too.

3. Reduce the Animations:

# Tip: Become a Developer via >> Settings >> About Device >> Build Number (tap 5 -7 times)

Developer options help us to play around and improve our Android device. Important features like Animations, USB Debugging, Capture Bug report, etc., can be tweaked in here.

Initially, it is not available by default on the device. You must Open App Drawer >> Settings >> About Device >> Build Number. Keep tapping “Build Number” until a message pops up saying “You are a developer

# Tip: Change Animation Speed via Settings >> Developer options >> Window and Transition Animation Scales >> Reduce the speed

Go back to the settings, and you’ll find Developer options in it. Now tap it and scroll down, you’ll find Window and Transition Animation Scales. Reduce the scale to 0.5x (1.0x by default) or completely remove the animation by making it 0.0x.

This will make the device run faster due to reduced animations and lesser use of the battery.

4. Clear Cached Data from Apps:

# Tip: Clear Cache of Apps to make some room for other background processes.

Cached data is stored by the apps so that it can open and access quickly, rather than starting from the beginning and access from main storage.

But over time this cached data keeps increasing in size and occupies storage, and also the apps which aren’t used much also have a lot of cached data. So clearing it at regular intervals is suggested to improve the performance.

Go to Settings >> Apps >> Tap the desired app >> clear cache, and it will be done.

Note: Please note that clearing cache of the app using mentioned method may ask you to log in again as the cached information will be deleted.

5. Wipe Cache Partition:

# Warning: Wipe Cache Partition will erase all the cache and all apps will be considered freshly installed.

Cache is important for a smooth experience of the Android device. It is stored in device memory and keeps running in the background which makes it difficult to handle for the device unless it is a top-notch device.

So it is important for us to clean the cache partition by entering into recovery mode. You can enter into it by pressing and holding the Volume Down Button and lock button (it may vary from device to device) simultaneously for a few moments after turning off the device.

After that you’ll see a menu, in that select “Wipe Cache Partition” and the cache will be erased and after that tap on “Reboot System Now” and device will boot again, boot will take more time than normal boot up because we have cleared the cache and apps need some time, so nothing to worry.

6. Use a Third Party Launcher:

The UI or the launcher provided by some of the companies will be very heavy (Xiaomi’s MiUI, Samsung’s Touchwiz, Asus’s ZenUI) on the device, it works well on high-end devices, but on basic smartphones, you can see the lag.

Also, much of the customizations will create difficulty in use, and most of the people will not like that, so using the 3rd party launchers will give the device more Stock Android like feel, which is easy to use and useful customizations.

This will also reduce the consumption of the RAM giving Stock like the feel and thus enhance the performance. Some of the launchers that are great and simple as well are Nova Launcher, Evei Launcher, and ADW 2 Launcher.

7. Keep your Device Up To Date:

# Tip: Keep your Phone Updated via Settings >> Software >> Check for Updates

Android devices get Over The Air updates from the company, whenever a new update is available you’ll receive a notification regarding it.

After you download the update, the phone will go into the recovery mode, and it gets installed, the updates can be latest security patches, bug fixes for the device, battery enhancements, etc., or major update like Android version.

Keep your device up to date as it will enhance the performance by managing the RAM well and enhancing the battery life, thus making the device faster.

8. Remove Unused Files:

# Tip: Use File Manager to Select and Delete Unwanted Files

Smartphones come with a decent amount of storage, and it is good enough to store a large number of files, images, videos, etc.

But storing excessive files in the device will create a problem, whenever you open gallery or any file manager (if you do not find one, install from Play Store) the device will take some time to access all the date and gather it munching away the important CPU time and cause inefficiency.

So this can be solved by just removing all those files and free the space so that the device can function smoothly and quickly. Just remember to back-up the data that you deleted to the cloud or the PC.

9. Perform a Factory Reset:

# Tip: Factory Reset will Erase Everything on your Phone and will make it as fresh as it was when you purchased it.

Well, this is a huge step and needs a lot of thinking to be done, a factory reset will erase every file on your device and it will reboot, and after that, the phone will be exactly like the time when you first booted the device.

It will ask for the google account to log in, and there will be no apps that were installed by you previously. Because of this, the device will have very few files to access and performance will be enhanced along with battery life.

If you are fed up of all the junk in your data and want everything to be wiped at once, I advise you to factory reset your device, but make sure you have made a backup of the critical data on the device.

To perform a factory reset, open app drawer >> Settings >> Backup and Reset >> Factory Data Reset >> Reset Phone.

10. Overclock the Device:

# Warning: Avoid rooting if you are not aware of the technical aspects of it.

Overclocking the device will improve the performance of the device significantly. It is disabled by the manufacturers because of the heat produced while performing at high level and thus significantly reducing the battery life. Overclocking can be done using apps like setCPU or Android Overclock.

Overclocking needs root access of the device, so you have to root the device. This isn’t advisable because rooting the device will void the warranty of the device.

Along with that, the user is gained access to critical components of the device or the core functionalities like calling, messaging, etc., and deleting them would create a lot of problems. So this is only done by the developers to take the device to the extreme level.

11. Install a Custom ROM:

Installing custom ROMs needs the bootloader to be unlocked, and the device needs to be rooted to access the root directory of the device file system.

Secondly, as I already mentioned the problems with gaining the root access, so this is recommended only for the people who have a good understanding of Android or the developers.

install-custom-rom-make-phone-faster

# Warning: Avoid Installing Custom ROM if you are not aware of the technical aspects of it.

If your device gets old and the company stops sending the updates, you can always install a custom ROM from 3rd party developers and before that a proper Recovery and then install. Most of the people install Stock ROM so that they get that Stock feel and no lags.

Also with no bloatware and unnecessary apps and files from the previously installed OS, the storage space also increases and better RAM management.

But there will be many problems too, like missing on key features such as a fingerprint scanner, slide button to silent (on One Plus 3, 3T), a decrease in camera quality, etc., so only developers are advised to take up this step.

Android is the most popular OS in mobile phones and tablets, and it occupies approximately 80% of the market share among the mobile phones and tablets. Due to such vast usage of it, there is a proper support from Google and 3rd party developers as well to take the product to the next level. Many such things can be performed on the Android device to make it run faster. I hope this post was useful and reading it has solved your problem.
